Building Energy Intensity Factor
We have measured 27 town halls and office buildings in NH and so far have an average of 69.6 kbtu/sq ft. The lower the number the better, but there is no particular meaning or rating attached to a particular measurement. Basically, when we see buildings doing well (i.e., having low scores) relative to other buildings of that type, we say they are less of a priority for energy savings. Of course, improvements can ALWAYS be made in ANY building. But if a town is trying to identify which among its buildings to work on first, one with a low kbtu/sq ft would be a lower priority.
