Lead and Copper Service Line Inventory
New federal requirements have been issued by the Environmental Protection Agency to require all water systems across the United States to create and maintain a public inventory of service line materials in accordance with the revised Lead and Copper Rule. This regulatory update was developed to better protect communities from possible lead exposure in drinking water by providing the public with information on the location and material type of each service line connected to a public water system.
While we have inventoried many of the 315 service locations, there are still a number that need to be inventoried. This effort will require Public Works staff to enter your property and photograph the water line as it enters the foundation. The inspection will only take 5-10 minutes and is at no cost to residents. Alternatively, residents can submit a photo of their service line including the address to publicworks@newcastlenh.org. The photo must distinguish the pipe material as it enters the home. Visit the EPA Tool for more information on identifying your service line material.
